Bodywork

A Reiki session is a gentle and non-invasive healing practice that originated in Japan.

During a session, the practitioner channels universal life force energy to the recipient through light touch or hovering hands over specific areas of the body.

This energy aims to promote relaxation, stress reduction, and overall well-being by addressing imbalances in the body's energy system. When incorporated into somatic therapy, Reiki enhances the therapeutic experience by facilitating deeper relaxation, releasing tension, and supporting the body's natural healing processes.

By combining Reiki with somatic therapy, practitioners can offer a holistic approach to healing that addresses both physical and energetic aspects of well-being, promoting harmony and restoration on multiple levels.

FAQ

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that promotes stress reduction, relaxation, and healing. It is based on the idea that a "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. When this energy is low, we are more likely to feel stressed or unwell. Reiki practitioners use their hands to channel this energy, helping to balance and restore it in the body. It is a gentle, non-invasive practice that can be used to complement traditional medical treatments and promote overall well-being.

What is Somatic therapy?

Somatic movements focus on the internal experience of the body, emphasizing awareness of sensation, movement, and posture. Unlike traditional exercise routines, somatic movements prioritize mindful movement and conscious engagement of muscles, joints, and breath. These movements aim to release tension, improve flexibility, and enhance proprioception by retraining the nervous system's control over muscles. Through gentle and deliberate sequences, somatic movements promote relaxation, body awareness, and overall well-being, offering a holistic approach to physical health and self-care.

How is a treatment given?

In a standard treatment the client is usually laying on a mattress or yoga mat on the ground and the client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her/his hands on (respectfully) or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the clients needs. Each position is held for three to ten minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. In addition, gentle holding of limbs while moving or shaking them to release tension and promote relaxation.

This technique encourages the body to unwind and let go of stress stored in muscles and joints. Additionally, somatic movements may incorporate rocking and swaying motions, mimicking a fish-like movement, to encourage fluidity and freedom of movement throughout the torso and other body parts. By engaging in these gentle, natural movements, individuals can reconnect with their bodies, enhance body awareness, and alleviate physical discomfort. The whole treatment usually lasts between 45 and 75 minutes.

Are there any side effects from a SomaReiki treatment?

Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a SomaReikii treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is called a healing crisis. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process so this is a good sign.
